back for a bit

6:22 p.m. on 2001-12-10
"Dude, I rock!!!"

Well, school is proving to get better and better. Now if only I could up my biology grade a point or two. I have a 98.3 in biology at the moment... If I go down from that, I will definately be upset. Now, a 99.3 would be nice. A 100.3 would be welcome too. :)

Well, the 98.3 on a mini report card marks the first half of the second quarter. And then the second quarter will end near the close of January. And then already the year will be half over. Fun fun. What will be weird. Almost half the year has wasted away. Sort of...

So what else happened today?

In debate, we learned that we must risk life and limb for our Lakeland Debate team for two days in mid-January. On January 11th and 12th, we are having the "Westchester Classic" at Lakeland High School. Of course, the Lakeland team is not debating. Instead, the Lakeland team will be running around fulfilling the requests of our coaches. Novices (of which I am one of) have to be "runners" which basically means that we have to (a) collect ballots (and if not the entire ballot, then at least the white sheet), (b) make sure that nobody is sitting at the desk of a teacher, as teacher desks are considered sacred, (c) make sure that nobody touches the teacher desks, once again, because those desks are sacred, and (d) do anything else that the three coaches ask us to do.

Oh... and for all of you debaters out there who might be reading this (and when I say debaters, I mean policy debaters... I have nothing against LD debate, BTW, as I might be crossing over to LD) I come from the Lakeland/Panas Debate Team. And one of my coaches is Mr. Varley. Every debater should know who Mr. Varley is. And if you don't, he is referred to as The God of Debate by the other two coaches for my team. Everybody - coaches and debaters alike - speak softly when they talk about him. Mr. Peters, another coach, told us to literally bow down to the dude. He's amazing. (Sorry, Paul... A varsity debater, told me to say that to any debater. He told me that if you were to say to any debater, "I am from Lakeland" then they would automtically know what team you are talking about. Pretty good for the back hills of nowhere.)

Anyway...

I had a private flute lesson during school today. My teacher was absolutely amazed by my tone.... That it was already so well developed.

Speaking of flute, I am no longer the only freshman flute in the select select band. *pouts* Colleen is in it now. I have nothing against Colleen, she is a good flute player... I am just far better than her (but shh... Don't tell her I said the truth). And I wanted to be the only freshman in it. But I am far better at the flute than any other freshman and a bunch of sophs and juniors and even some seniors. Or so says Cheryl, and she is the top flutist in the school.

But back to my private lesson...

The teacher says he was extremely impressed by my tone. And I could hit the middle C fairly well. I think he was amazed. But I am not normal.

And I have more good flute news!!!

I might be able to earn an extra-half credit next year if I take something called "Music Plan A." Basically, it is an independent music study and you have to be approved and recommended. And the teacher said he would definately recommend me. *smiles* I love being good at my instrument. *smiles again*

So I had a Global test today on China and India, Buddhism and Hinduism... An easy hundred. An extremely easy hundred. Too easy.

And I had a french test. An easy over a one hundred. Too easy once again.

There's one thing I hate about being smart. Things can be too easy at times. Like, school itself.

I missed biology because of my lessons. We are learning human physiology. Fun fun. Why can't they just say anatomy? Same thing, different word. Fun fun again.

I be going now, but I be back later... Or tomorrow.
