"matching the dress"

Last night I was talking to Joshua and we were talking about how I am excited about my Winter Ball/Junior Prom (depending on what our class has) because I get to bring him to the tuxedo shop and help him pick out a tuxedo. And so we were talking about how traditionally, the guy will "match" the girl and get a vest/tie/cummerbund/pocket square (it depends on what he wants and what is available) to match her dress. And Joshua said "Well why can't we match me?" and I said it's because you always match the girl. That is the way it has been done. Every guy who comes in talks about how his girlfriend wants him to match their dark red or bright green dress. But why do you match the girl? Why is it done that way? For what reason? Why can't the guy go to the tux shop and pick out a color? and then the girl can go out and find a dress to mach the vest. It's like... Why can't gys hit girls? Joshua brought this up too, so I am not taking credit for this argument. Why can't guys hit girls? Because girls are "weak" and "fragile"? Hell no. I am not weak and I am not fragile and I can fight as good as any guy. So why can't I get hit? In the words of Joshua, the difference between me and him is that he's got a dick and I don't. Honestly though... I would like to know your opinions. Why shouldn't guys hit me? It's fair game if I want to kick him in the nuts and the he is supposed to take it?

*sigh* The world today... What are we going to do about it?

I love Joshua.
